Like the commonly known Rutherford and Thompson, he was involved with the discovering of the atoms core components, such as the nucleus, the electrons, and valence shells. He was given credit for the finding of the nucleus. His research lead him to learn of a very new component of the atom, which was able to increase the mass of an atom without affecting the electrical charge. He served as a British adviser for the Manhattan Project, and was knighted in 1935.
